Natalie Halloway is a contemporary poet and author based in the Mojave Desert. Through emotionally raw, confessional poetry, her work explores grief, desire, fractured relationships, survival, displacement, reinvention, and the often-uncomfortable process of finding yourself again. Her writing moves between the intimate and the atmospheric, drawing on desert landscapes, celestial imagery, dream worlds, and the quiet moments where identity begins to shift. She is the author of All in on Empty and What Remembers My Name, published through Kismet Chaos Publishing.

Natalie Halloway is a contemporary poet and author based in the Mojave Desert, somewhere between the mountains of Utah and the city lights of Las Vegas. Originally from Missouri, she relocated more than 1,300 miles west, an experience that profoundly reshaped both her life and the landscapes of her writing.

Writing has been part of Natalie’s life since childhood. She completed her first manuscript at fifteen, but for many years kept much of her work private, uncertain whether she was ready to invite others into the intimate worlds she created. After more than two decades of writing, she began sharing her work publicly with the hope that readers might recognize something of their own lives within it.

Her debut poetry collection, All in on Empty (Kismet Chaos Publishing, 2026), was written amid casino lights, desert highways, storage units, fractured relationships, and the difficult work of beginning again. Many of its poems were created from within upheaval rather than safely beyond it, documenting grief, anxiety, displacement, emotional survival, complicated relationships, and the uncertain process of rebuilding a life that no longer resembles the one left behind.

Her forthcoming collection, What Remembers My Name, turns further inward, exploring identity, desire, memory, survival, creative hunger, grief, self-reclamation, and the pieces of ourselves that remain even after we have forgotten how to recognize them. Moving through celestial imagery, desert landscapes, dream worlds, intimacy, anger, spirituality, and reinvention, the collection asks what survives when familiar versions of the self begin to fall away.

Across her work, Natalie writes about the distance between surviving and truly living. Her poetry is rooted in emotional honesty, vivid imagery, and an attention to ordinary moments that quietly carry enormous emotional weight. She is particularly drawn to thresholds: the space between grief and acceptance, longing and release, endurance and freedom, and the person someone once was and the person they are still becoming.

Her work often moves between the deeply personal and the atmospheric, weaving the tangible with the imagined through recurring images of moonlight, stars, fire, water, desert roads, books, and the strange worlds people create when reality becomes too difficult to inhabit. Whether writing about loss, desire, creativity, exhaustion, or beginning again, Natalie’s work returns to the same underlying question: what remains of us after life has changed everything we thought we knew about ourselves?

She writes for readers who have felt displaced, exhausted, unseen, or caught somewhere between survival and becoming, and for those still searching for language for the parts of themselves they thought they had lost.
